My names Kelly and I'm from America. I live in Russia as an expat, and, well, lots of interesting things happen to me. This blog is supposed to be about Pop culture, but really, its me trying to understand what's going on in this world where things our constantly changing and crazy ideas are being let loose. In my mind, the world is Wonderland, and I'm Alice.

Vogue Ads

I only have one issue with Vogue and Teen Vogue. They have way too many ads. Its so annoying. I mean, I do love looking through a magazine and seeing ads for cute stores, or cosmetics and thinking "maybe I could use that, I should get it", but in Vogue and Teen Vogue, there ads aren't even for anything I would buy. Actually, scratch that, the ads aren't for anything that I could afford to buy. When the ads are all for Fendi, Chanel, Michael Kors and Bvlgari, I completely lose interest in anything to do with the magazine. Now I know, magazines are a great way to advertise, but enough is enough. The worst issue of Vogue I've read is actually the most recent one. It was the "Power Issue" and had Lady Gaga on the cover wearing a pink wig and purple lipstick. Now this issue literally had a 16 page ad for Nordstroms, a six page ad for Barneys New York, and a four page ad for Versace. The ads ruin the magazine. I don't care if you put Lady Gaga in some ridiculous wig on the cover, when her interview is split into 70 different pages because in between each page of interview you put 8 pages of ads, it makes it impossible to read. They also put the creepiest ads in. I know that's not the magazines fault, but when you put an ad of a girl sitting in a dark room with wearing nothing but a pair of underwear for men, spiked leopard print heels, and a logo over her boobs, its a little disturbing. One ad that was creepy for me was Juicy Couture, and it was a man wearing women's clothes. Now I have to admit, the ads are what make Vogue, Vogue, but I don't know how many more ads they can shove into one issue before they become a high-end fashion catalogue.

Again..

I am sorry, again for changing the URL of my blog, but I did it this time so that I would never have to change it again, even if I change the title of my blog. I know its a really weird name, but it does have a meaning. Keegles is a random nickname that my sister came up with that my friends use now. They can also call me keekles too, but i made it keegles. The KPH at the end of it are my initials. So thats the reasoning behind my new URL.

I hope everyone did Earth Hour on Saturday Night! I'm sorry I didn't post a reminder about it. My friend and I did it at my house, and it was so much fun! If you don't know what Earth Hour is, its an event organized by the World Wildlife Foundation where everyone turns off all of their lights and everything electronic from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm, in whatever time-zone you are in at that time. Its a great way to get people to join in the fight against climate change. If you missed it this year, you can always do it next year. Its fun, especially when you invite friends over to hang out with you in the dark!
Here are some photos of major cities that turned out their lights for Earth Hour:

London, England Before and During Earth Hour

Marc Jacobs

I've said many times that I am not exactly a "fashion expert", but I do have opinions on certain designers and or trends. One of my favorite designers is Marc Jacobs. His clothes just are so bright and amazing and the way he uses colors and patterns is genius. I also love his bags, accessories and perfumes. His crossbody bags are probably my favorite, and my favorite perfume of his has to be Daisy. Over all, he is a fabulous designer, and his new and fresh ideas are always beautiful and trend setting.
P.S I also loved the different hats and hair accessories he used in his 2011 spring collection.

Katy Perry

I actually happen to love Katy Perry. I think her music is really good and her style is crazy yet fun. I think its funny that she started her career in music as the singer in a christian rock band, and that now she is this huge crazy artist. I love her style, I love that she constantly has something new and different, and I think its funny that she wears different colored wigs and everything. Her clothes are so bright and colorful and they are something only she could pull off. Her music is the perfect music to listen to on a night with friends, hanging out, or even when your just alone. She is an amazing star, and her husband is hilarious. They are perfect for each-other. She's fun and flirty, and she's not like any other celebrity. She also has her own OPI nail polish line which is pretty cool.

Justin Bieber

I felt like I should talk about him a bit, because he's recently taken over glee and all the magazines. My friend and I came up with a conclusion that we don't hate him, but we definitely don't obsess over him. His music is ok, its kind of fun to dance to with friends, but I wouldn't go to one of his concerts. Also, I think the fact that he has his own movie is pretty cool. But I can't decide on his new haircut. I liked the hair flip thing that he had before, but this makes him look older so I think its good. I also think that he's cute with Selena Gomez. In conclusion, he's not that bad, but I think he's a bit overrated. There are a few things that I don't like about him, but he's ok. But I want to make one thing very clear to everyone.
I am most certainly NOT a Belieber.

Oscars Worst Dressed

Ok, these are my opinion, so anyone that disagrees, I'm sorry. I don't know that much about fashion anyway, so feel free to voice your opinions in comments.

1. Penelope Cruz in L'Wren Scott with Javier Bardem. This dress reminds me of a costume I would find in a Halloween store under the name "Fire Queen".

2. Scarlett Johannsson in Dolce & Gabbana. I don't know what was going through her head, but I'm guessing at that point in time she had a thing for purple lace. Lots of it..

3. Halle Berry in Marchesa. This dress makes me think that she got ready for the Oscars in a perfectly nice dress, but her limousine took a wrong turn and she got stuck in an art closet somewhere, and somehow got all this fluff stuck to her dress while she waited for someone to get her out.

4. Amy Adams in L'Wren Scott. Ok, I give her props for choosing a dress that made her hair pop. But when its a dress that if you shortened the hemline and cut off the sleeves, Hannah Montana would wear, that kind of gives you a hint that you probably shouldn't wear it to the Oscars.

5. Annette Bening in Naeem Khan. This dress wasn't that bad, but her hairdo, and the pearl details just made her look older than she is, and it just didn't flatter her as much as another dress could have.

Oscars Best Dressed

Ok, I know I'm late, and I know everyone else has already done it, but I want to say who I thought were the best dressed at the Oscars. Tomorrow I am going to post who I thought were the worst dressed.

1. Mila Kunis in Elie Saab. I loved this. I loved the color on her and how she paired it with simple hair. I thought it was perfect for her.

2. Natalie Portman in Rodarte. I also loved the color on her and it made her look gorgeous. It was simple and perfect for the mommy-to-be.

3. Anne Hathaway in Valentino Archive. I thought she looked beautiful and even though she's done that sort of dress before, it never gets old on her.

4. Anne Hathaway in Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci. On to her second dress. I give her props for having eight dress changes, and I thought this one was beautiful with the details on the sides.

5. Nicole Kidman in Dior Couture. I thought this looked so good on her, it made her look thin and made her hair pop.

6. Celine Dion in Giorgio Armani Prive. This dress made her look so elegant, and I loved it.
